Preparations for Delivery Day

Tomorrow is the monthly delivery day for our Senior Citizen Project, so you can bet things were hopping over here at HSP today. As we deliver over 6 tons of groceries to 123 needy seniors each month, there are a lot of volunteers who contribute to making our delivery days successful. One such group that we would like to recognize is the group of 9 volunteers from UPS Supply Chain Solutions in Carol Stream who came in today to help us sort fresh produce and bread to be delivered to the seniors tomorrow. These volunteers regularly lend a hand sorting produce for our seniors, and their steadfast support is part of what enables us to continue to make an impact in the lives of the very needy senior enrolled in our program.
We were also visited today by Rose Garcia, founder of the DuPage/Kane County chapter of Birthday Cakes 4 Free. Every month Birthday Cakes 4 Free provides birthday cupcakes for each senior in the program with a birthday that month. These yummy cupcakes grant special recognition to the seniors as they celebrate their special day. While our seniors receive treats from Birthday Cakes 4 Free, their furry and feathered companions are also covered thanks to the Fox Valley Animal Welfare League who provides pet food for the seniors’ pets each month. These groups are just a few of many thoughtful volunteers who help HSP best serve the impoverished seniors in our Senior Citizen Project on our delivery days.
